'OCEAN' SERIES
These artworks were inspired by the coastal landscapes of Uruguay along the Atlantic Ocean. The paintings capture scenes I sketched while walking along the shoreline, exploring the shifting moods of the sea. I used expressive textures with a palette dominated by delicate blue, yellow, and pink.
'NORTHERN LIGHTS' SERIES
These artworks were inspired by the auroras in the region of Trøndelag Norway where I live. The paintings capture the northern lights movements over the Trondheim fjord surrounded by mountains using expressive textures in green, black and pink palette.
'GLACIERS' SERIES
These artworks were inspired by a trip to South Patagonia in Argentina where I hiked around different glaciers. This is a unique place on Earth because it has one of the largest water reservoirs of frozen water in the world. Chatwing (1977) described in his book In Patagonia: “I climbed a path and from the top looked upstream towards Chile. I could see the river, glinting and sliding through the bone-white cliffs with strips of emerald cultivation on either side. Away from the cliffs was the desert. There was no sound but the wind, whirring through thorns and whistling through dead grass, and no other sign of life but a hawk, and a black beetle easing over white stones.” These series capture that atmosphere with expressive textures in a delicate blue and pink palette.
'LAKES' SERIES
These artworks were inspired by the natural environment of Vilaka lake in Latvia. I created compositions to re-create the reflections of the water lake atmosphere through contrast, expressionism and drawing with charcoal to add texture. These series of works have expressive textures in a green, yellow, blue and some pink palette. All the originals are expressionist landscape acrylic paintings on stretched canvas over wooden bars. Each artwork has several layers of acrylic with rich textures in a delicate blue, green, yellow and pink palette. I added a thin coat of gloss varnish to protect the painting and increase the saturation and brightness of the colors. The artwork was inspired by a residence in Vilaka, Latvia. The originals are part of the Vilaka museum collection.
